In fact, Wimbledon Park Golf Club is an 18 hole, par 66 parkland course, situated opposite the world famous All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet club, north of Wimbledon village. It is part of Wimbledon Park, landscaped by the famous Capability Brown in the eighteenth Century with the members only club forming in 1898. Membership is available in different options depending on usage and age, including junior memberships.
The course is known to be challenging even to the most experienced golfers. It is due to its narrow fairways, trees, slopes, bunkers and a large lake. There is a short course, practice area and putting green. The clubhouse includes a shop selling clothing. Also a equipment, and a swing analysis centre where professionals then can tailor tuition to suit the needs of a player’s game. There are also group lessons available for children and adults. As well as golfing summer camps for juniors and regular competitions and social events.
Especially, there are a number of function rooms in the Wimbledon Park Golf Club. So, they are for members to use including a bar, TV room, and two dining rooms where the club hosts events for members. These rooms are also available for private hire and frequently host weddings, functions and corporate events for up to 106 for a sit down meal, 120 theatre conference or 160 standing reception. There are smaller rooms for up to 24 or 16 guests also available. The terrace faces out onto the course and is heated during the winter months.
Accordingly, the club is surrounded by the Wimbledon Park, which originally comprised part of the grounds of Wimbledon Manor House situated on the hill to the south, near St Mary’s Church Wimbledon, the old parish church of Wimbledon.
The park also contains an athletics stadium with 400m track. So, every November a large fireworks display takes place in Wimbledon Park. And it is one of the largest and most popular displays in London.
